Occupational Health and Safety Act
This “Code of Practice for Existing Goods Hoists Installations” (installed prior to 30 September 2015) was incorporated on 3 February 2017 into the Lift, Escalator and Passenger Conveyor Regulations, 2010. Previously existing goods hoist installations were regulated under the Driven Machinery Regulations from 1988. These Regulations were repealed by the 2015 Driven Machinery Regulations, and Reg. 23(2) thereof states that goods hoist must, within five years, comply with the provisions of the Lift, Escalator and Passenger Conveyor Regulations, 2010.
This Code now regulates existing goods hoist installation, meaning that they have to satisfy the requirements of the Lift, Escalator and Passenger Conveyor Regulations. This includes the registration of all units with the regional office of the Department of Labour, regular servicing/maintenance etc., record keeping and so on.
